His constant campaigning on environmental issues has been reflected in an increasing green awareness and activity by the Council. He has highlighted the importance of low cost, low energy housing.
David is Vice-Chair of Bury St Edmunds Liberal Democrats, and has been Chair of the Suffolk Coordinating Committee, and a member of the East of England Policy Committee.
David is delighted to have been selected to fight the seat of Bury St Edmunds at the next General Election. The 2007 May Council results showed the Liberal Democrats in a strong second place with 12,720 votes compared to Labour on 4,782 votes and the Tories on 23,666.
Career: 5 years in banking before he left to spend the summer rock climbing in the Lake District. Returned to the North East and took up a successful career in construction as a Quantity Surveyor. David has worked on jobs from £50,000 to £120 million where he was the sole quantity surveyor on a project to develop a gold mine suspected to be the former King Solomon's Mines in Saudi Arabia. He has worked all over the UK, and spent two years working in Zimbabwe.
Community: David is a traditional grassroots community focused Liberal. He moved to Bury St Edmunds in the year 2000, and has been a Parish Councillor for many years in Fornham All Saints. After being elected to the Borough Council in 2007 he was invited to Chair the Residents Action Group known as Fornham Action, and helped set up the Fornham At Martin Youth Club, which he Chairs, and the Fornham Over Sixties Club, assisting with activities throughout the Fornham Villages, and is always quick to respond to residents concerns. David is Chairman of United Nations Association Bury Branch, and actively supports the Millenium Farm Trust which helps people with learning disabilities get work, and work experience on farms. He is also a Nightstop host for the YMCA offering his own home for emergency occupation to young people made unexpectedly homeless.
Core Beliefs: David believes in the freedom of individuals, communities, and businesses to govern their own affairs with a minimum of government interference, while in turn expecting individuals, communities and business to have due care and regard for others. He has no faith in 'central government' knowing best; no time for un-elected quangos; or overblown bureaucracies that prove their worth with excessive rules and regulations and targets.
He is absolutely fed up with the national situation and determined if elected to help bring about real change in the way we do things in Britain!
