Tories Slump in County Elections

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Thu 4th Jun 2009

For those who have not seen the results and bearing in mind some of our County Seats cross borders with neighbouring constituencies the following results are very interesting. I have 'averaged' where seats are 2 member.

Tories - 16,854 (down from 25,445!)

Lib Dems - 9,831 (down from 10,423)

Labour - 3,814 (down from (4,619)

Others - 8007 (up from 4,961)

The Lib Dems held up their vote very well in the current crisis, but the fall in the Tory vote, so much against the national trend is remarkable

It might be worth noting that in the 15,500 voter Tower division one of the two seats was won by Paul Farmer with just over 2,000 votes. Without delivering a leaflet of knocking on a door Daniel Warren achieved a higher vote than Labour's Parliamentary Candidate whose team worked hard.

UKIP's vote fell from 1279 last time to 883!

The next election, barring by-elections will be the General Election. Time to prepare. Watch out for electoral reforms to be announced before the next election.
